A few days ago, Sony officially presented the characteristics of its PlayStation 5 but cast doubt on the compatibility of its next console with PS4 games. An uncertainty to which the Japanese firm responded by announcing that a “vast majority” of PS4 franchises will be playable on the new console.

With the competition between the PS5 and Xbox Series X already raging as the two consoles begin to unfold, the issue of backward compatibility stands as a major point of comparison. And if Microsoft responded to the hopes of fans by announcing that the future console will be compatible with the games of its predecessors, Sony had not been very clear on this point. Details recently provided by the Japanese company nevertheless reassure fans who will be able to play a “vast majority” of their favorite PS4 games on the PlayStation 5.

Sony also clarifies: “We anticipate that backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frame rate on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions.” The firm is currently working on each video game one after the other in order to update them if necessary and ensures to keep the most impatient informed.
