British automobile manufacturer Rolls-Royce is slowly stepping into the collaborative space, having recently teased a dynamic Stüssy collaboration in the works. Now, Rolls-Royce is uniting with Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen for a one-off custom Phantom inspired by the art of haute couture.
The collaborative Phantom Syntopia is an entirely bespoke car, acting as the most technically-advanced Rolls-Royce Phantom ever produced. The design sees the unconventional pairing break boundaries through state-of-the-art innovation and design practices. Inspired by Iris Van Herpen’s sculptural masterpieces, the exterior coating dons a holographic purple finish with a curving “Weaving Water” print that reflects fluidity and movement.
The Phantom’s standard grill and lightning mechanisms are maintained, while the three-dimensional “Weaving Water” motif moves into the interior hood and replaces the artificial stars that commonly decorate Rolls-Royce’s bespoke automobiles. The collaborative Phantom Syntopia was designed over four years and will remain a one-of-one creation.
